In partnership with the OurcycleLA program, ITA and Councilmember Harris-Dawson hosted a distribution event last week to give out 100 free, refurbished PCs and hotspots to the Community Coalition Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School Scholars. The Freedom School is a nationally renown summer education enrichment program that nurtures children’s love of reading, connects to their culture, and let’s them have fun and participate in community service and social action. For the third summer, Community Coalition is operating this program for 100 South L.A. elementary, middle, and high school students.

Mayor Eric Garcetti launched the “OurCycle LA” program in 2015 as a program to refurbish City computers slated for replacement and give them to Angelenos in need.

"By getting creative and innovative, we're stretching our taxpayer dollars by providing a second life for city computers," Mayor Garcetti said. "Each computer represents an opportunity – an opportunity to connect, an opportunity to protect the planet, an opportunity to work. With OurCycle LA, we’re not only helping bridge the digital divide, we’re simultaneously supporting our economy by providing job training, creating employment opportunities, and boosting L.A.’s growing e-waste management sector.”
