LA WiFi Background
Wireless technology is increasingly being used by cities across the nation in innovative and creative ways for such things as improving citizen access to government services, helping cities operate more efficiently, creating a stronger sense of community, and providing more options for wireless access to the Internet. In recognizing the potential benefits of advanced wireless networks for Los Angeles, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and City Councilman Tony Cardenas introduced the LA WiFi Initiative, with the goal of connecting Los Angeles residents, businesses and visitors to the global community.
The City of Los Angeles conducted a feasibility study to explore the needs, interests, and feasibility of developing a wireless network throughout the City. As part of this study the City:
